The Recommendation Thread
Here's a topic to recommend anything that you think is good. anything at all. even gay pr0n.
Do you like Sludge? If so do i have an offer for you! Here we have a band called Tephra, they are form Germany and they have released 2 albums and a demo. I would say that their sound is very close to Cult Of Luna which is probably why i like it so much. Just like Cult Of Luna, the hardcore influences are there as well as the crushing riffs and rip-roaring vocals. Highly recommended.
(BTW you really dont have to do it just like i have i was bored )

Re: The Recommendation Thread
Gay porn is win. I highly recommend it. Especially titles like "Tongue on Cheek" and "Cockenstein", which our very own LordHangnail starred in. I was in the first one.
More seriously though....can anyone recommend any good Grind bands? No shitty scene grind, plx.

Re: The Recommendation Thread
Actually, i wouldnt mind some decent grind for virgin of grind. I've been really digging death/grind bands like !T.O.O.H.! and Asesino of late. So i might as well check out some grind.

Re: The Recommendation Thread
Lykathea Aflame? Them and !TOOH! are the only near-grind bands I enjoy.
Re: The Recommendation Thread
Hahahah MA has then as Progressive/Symphonic Brutal Death Metal. I didnt know such a combination was possible. But with 13 reviews and 97% average i dont think i can just ignore this band. ill see what i can find. Thanks mate.
How bout you Jester. Seeing as Bob Saget isnt here would that make you the most grind soul on this forum? What should i start with?

Re: The Recommendation Thread
Lykathea Aflame came from Brutal Tech-Death band Appalling Spawn, so check them out if you like Lykathea.
Napalm Death is great for getting into Grindcore, it's pretty Death Metal-influenced, so it's easier to start with then just straight Grind. My personal favorites (though definitely not others') are "The Code Is Red...Long Live The Code" and "Smear Campaign". "Scum" is considered an classic, highly influential album, one of the first of its kind (back in 1987).

Re: The Recommendation Thread
yeah, napalm death is good, also for grind check out Leng Tch'e, really good stuff
also, I got Nightwish's new one, and I'm liking it. From what I understand the other lead singer was even better, but I don't know which ones to get, so, a little help? Also, what other bands are similiar that I can check out?

Re: The Recommendation Thread
Indeed, Leng Tch'e is also a decent starting place.
Phobia, Nasum, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Pig Destroyer, Cretin and Circle Of Dead Children are all great Grind bands and aren't really hard to get into.

Re: The Recommendation Thread
I was used to like Wishmaster, musically wise. I never really liked Tarja's voice, but they have talented musicians.metalmaniac37 wrote:also, I got Nightwish's new one, and I'm liking it. Re: The Recommendation Thread
You know what I need more of? Power Metal--like something closer to Running Wild than say Dragonforce.
Re: The Recommendation Thread
I hate cheesy stuff like Dragonforce as well, but I really enjoy Blind Guardian, Persuader, Savage Circus, Dark Empire and Sinergy to name a few.
Re: The Recommendation Thread
Stormwarrior, Witch Cross(Fit For Fight - their only full length release). Try Pharaoh...they're not like Running Wild, but they're Power Metal...:p
Oh yes, Dark Empire are really good. Any idea when their new album is out, Everlost?

Re: The Recommendation Thread
Ha, I didn't even know they're working on a new one. Somewhere in 2008 says M-A, that doesn't help a lot.
Re: The Recommendation Thread
And that becomes one of my most aniticipated releases of 2008...
Think I'll go listen to their debut album again...

Pretty interesting stuff. According to M-A they are "Progressive Death/Grind/Avant-Garde with classical influences". And both the members look like Devin Townsend. It's pretty bad-ass actually.
Re: The Recommendation Thread
Haha the thing that won me over was that they look like DT Ill check them out 2moro...too tired and half asleep to make a good judgment. Cheers for the rec

Re: The Recommendation Thread
BYAW! Garret, Everlost, Jester and anyone else that like Post-Rock, you may/may not like/love this band. I just found out about them, and they are from not even 20 minutes from me, I have no idea why I never heard of them before. The instrumentals are very Post-Rock like, but they have vocals in all of their songs. The vocals sound like a mix of Brand New and mostly Anthony Green (of Circa Survive, Saosin, The Sound Of Animals Fighting), which I just love.
I figured you guys may like it because of the instrumentals, which are very good. The vocals might turn some of you off to them though, but I don't think they should, I personally like them. I downloaded all of their songs from their Myspace the instant I heard them, and I'm listening to them now.
C'est Le Soleil:
EDIT: They are also very reminiscent of Cave-In's "Jupiter", they have a very spacy feel to them, especially on their three 2007 Demo tracks, all of which have some reference to space in the song titles ("We'll Return To Earth", "Go Then There Are Other Worlds", and "The Universe and I").
